Nowadays, most professional athletes practically operate with a pharmacist to get all the pills and supplements that can handle.

I personally do not subscribe to that theory. I try to keep my diet and intake as close to being natural as possible.

No Hormone Therapy or Vitamin S for me, LOL!

That being said, I do use supplements.

I have 5 supplements I use daily.

The first two are from the JYM supplement line, Vita and Omega. JYM was developed by Dr. Jim Stoppani, and is one of the leading brands on Body Building. Omega is just fish oil, but compared to other brands, this one to me is the best. There is no after taste or burps, and that makes it a smooth experience. Vita is a multi vitamin. I take both of them after breakfast as directed (4 capsules of Omega, 2 of Vita).

The next two supplements I take are protein. I use MuscleFeast Premium Blend for a post workout protein shake. It has a mix of Whey, Hydrolyzed Whey, and Casein proteins, which all metabolize at different rates – giving you a longer lasting benefit. I take 2 scoops in my protein shake that I consume during and after my workout.

The second protein I used is Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides.Collagen protein is used for skin, hair, and most importantly to me, joint health. It has no taste whatsoever, so it is easy to drink. I take 2 scoops with 2 cups of water daily, at random times during the day (just acts as a small meal for me).

The final supplement I take is again from the JYM supplement line, ZMA. ZMA is a Zinc Magnesium capsule, which is helpful for sleep amongst many other things. I take 3 capsules an hour before bed, at least one hour after my last meal.

One important thing to note about supplements – always test!

I have had students that read up about some super charge energy drink and decide they want to use it – 5 minutes before their first grappling tournament.

The result is almost always catastrophic: violent turning of the stomach, diarrhea, vomiting, etc.

You never know how your body will react to any supplement, so always test it first. You should be using your supplements during practice for a few weeks to see how you feel.

Only after that initial testing, if you feel no ill effects, THEN use it doing a competition.

To become the best, we must continuously test ourselves. We measure our performance, evaluate our faults, accept criticism and then work on improving ourselves before starting all over again.

I live by this principle, and I need your help! I wish to be the best instructor I can be, but I need feedback from you to know if I am doing a good job.
