Preventing A Rear Naked Choke is Easy – Choke Yourself First!

That title might sound like a gimmick, but it is absolutely true.

I have had about 80 pro grappling matches in my career, and I have only suffered 5 submission losses. 4 of them were rear naked chokes, but none of those were done from the back mount with hooks in.

You might be wondering how I could be rear naked choked without the back mount, but the answer is simple – it was in a transition. Each one of them was during a scramble and my opponent locked on the choke before the back mount was established. That had a lot to do with my my work on the Back Trap System.

I have NEVER been submitted while the back mount with hooks have been established. I have been back mounted by Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu, Ronaldo “Jacare” De Souza, Pablo Popovitch, and Joao Gabriel Rocha and was able to escape without being caught.
