“I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions. I think if you want to change something, change it today and don’t wait until the New Year.”

Georgina Bloomberg

Happy New Year!

It is customary to create New Years Resolutions as a way of motivating yourself to start fresh and make changes in your life. While it means well, the idea that you need to wait for some arbitrary event to transpire before making a change in your life is ill conceived.

If there is something that you want to change, change it now – do NOT wait.

Being in the fitness business, the amount of times I have heard people making excuses for why they can’t start pursuing their fitness goals is immeasurable. Goals or resolutions need to be pursued the moment they are conceived. Otherwise, they are just dreams and will slip away from you.

The one thing that nearly everyone says (myself included) after training in the martial arts for years is, “I wish I would have started sooner.”

The same can be said about pursuing any worthy goal. If you find yourself thinking about the same goal over and over again without chasing after it, stop yourself and think why. If your mind keeps gravitating towards this ambition, is obviously has importance to you. Why would you avoid it?

More than likely, a fear of failure may be keeping your from pulling the trigger. Turn off that fear and pursue that goal. Because you don’t want to be that person who looks back on their life and says, “I wish I would have started sooner.”

What do you think? Do you agree or disagree?
