Whenever I want to get serious and accomplish a goal, I use a journal. I write down positive affirmations, set out my goals, what I am going to do to accomplish them and by when I expect to have reached them.

Rather than keep this to myself, I want to share what I will be going through so that perhaps you can benefit from my experience.

I will admit that I have been slacking. I am not training as hard as I should have been, I haven’t been doing all the things I told myself I would be doing after my last ADCC.

For the first 3 months I did. I set out a recovery plan for how I was going to get myself back into training – without any surgery. I really had to baby step my way through it, but I always came to training, even if it was just to watch and take notes.

After three months, I had accomplished all the goals I had set out with regards to my knee rehabilitation. I made a critical mistake at that moment – I didn’t set any more goals!

I was content being able to run and train normally, and didn’t push myself to do more. Naturally, I became lazy without any goals and as a result here I am a few months later in no better shape than I was before.

Tsk, tsk. I should have known better. No excuses.

Well, now I will be making up for it. I am going to start the day strong tomorrow, beginning with reviewing my goals, saying my affirmations, writing into my journal, and running.

My goal – being the ADCC 2013 87.9kg and Absolute Champion, with all my matches won by submission.
