Arm Behind the Back Pass

The Arm Behind the Back Pass is one of my favorite ways of working out of a tight closed guard. This setup is very simple to use, and is great for MMA as well for ground and pound. I point out some small details that I see a lot of people miss, so I hope this makes your passing game just a little bit tighter.

Things to pay attention to here are the beginning hand positioning. Too often I see people immediately start grabbing the wrist they intend to pin, which makes it to obviously and difficult to setup. Second is how you grip the wrist once you get it passed to your other hand. Finally, make sure you don’t get careless and give up a triangle choke – yes that is still possible even with an arm behind the back!
